What shapes an AI answer?
The short answer
AI assistants build their answers from what they can read: websites, Google listings, reviews and directories. The clearer and more consistent those are about what you do and where, the easier you are to recommend.
Assistants answer from what they can read
When someone asks an AI assistant who to call, it searches the web and builds an answer from what it finds. It can't recommend a business it can't find, or one it isn't sure about.
The sources it leans on are mostly:
- Business websites, especially pages that clearly say what a business does and where
- Google listings, with your name, phone number, hours and reviews
- Review sites and directories
- Local news and community pages
Every check we run records which sources each answer used, so you can see what's shaping answers in your area. How we check.
What makes a business easy to recommend
Saying clearly what you do. A page for each service makes it obvious that you do that work. A site that only says "plumbing services" leaves the assistant to guess.
Saying clearly where you work. A page for each town you serve tells the assistant you're local to the person asking.
Details that match everywhere. When your name, phone number and towns are the same on your website, your Google listing and the directories, an assistant can be confident they're all you.
Answers to real questions. Assistants are answering questions. Your site's answers library gives them plain answers to the questions customers ask, from you.
What you can't control
Nobody controls what an AI assistant says, and anyone who claims to is overselling. Assistants change how they work, and the same question can get different answers. What you can do is make your business the easiest one to find, understand and trust, and then measure what happens.
