Does my old website’s information get used?
The short answer
Yes. We read your old site before your first build and use what it says, like your services, your towns and your story, to fill in anything you haven’t told us yet. We never overwrite something you set.
We read it before your first build
When you give us your website address, we read your old site while your new one is being built. Anything it states clearly about your business is used to fill in the details we don't know yet, like:
- the services you offer
- the towns you serve
- your phone number
- your story: how the business started and what it stands for
So your first build already reflects your business, without you typing it all in again.
We use what it says, and nothing it doesn't
A detail is used only when your old site actually states it. We don't guess, and we don't fill gaps with something that sounds right.
Your story is written fresh in the style of your new site, from what your old About page says, and then checked against that page so it doesn't claim anything your old site didn't.
You always win
Your old site only fills in details we don't have yet. If you've told us something, your answer is kept, and the old site never overwrites it. Every detail remembers where it came from, so you can see what came from your old site, and change anything at any time.
We keep a full copy of your old site
Before the switch, we save a complete copy of your old site on our side: its pages, its addresses and its images. Once your domain points at your new site, your old site is gone, so everything we need from it is captured first.
